For the needs of the children's and youth program, the eponymous 1987 film, based on the cult, multi-award-winning 1984 adventure novel by Croatian writer Joža Horvat, was adapted into a series of four half-hour episodes. The plot is set on an isolated, exotic South Sea island where an indigenous tribe lives under strict laws and taboos. According to the belief and decree of the shaman Tefot, no one is allowed to cross, or even look toward, Waitapu - an invisible line on the horizon where the sky and ocean meet, guarded by the god Tikoruru.
