Torpedo factory was opened in 1853. Upon the arrival of Robert Whitehead in 1874, the factory was renamed to Silurificio Whitehead, and later Robert Whitehead & Co. It was the first torpedo factory in the world and it modernized the arms industry. There were crafted ship engines and submarines as well. Today warehouses and workshops of the Torpedo factory are conserved and preserved.
