Directed by Živorad Mitrović Žika and written by Jovan Boškovski, the 1961 drama "Solunski atentatori" was produced by Skopje-based Vardar Film. Set in 1903 Salonika under Ottoman rule, right before the Ilinden Uprising, the narrative follows a group of radical young Macedonian revolutionaries. Heavily inspired by anarchist ideals, they vow to sacrifice their lives to spotlight the oppression and plight of the Macedonian people under Turkish rule to the global community. Notably, one-third of the film was shot on location in Rijeka - including Dolac Street, the Governor's Palace, the House of Narodna Tehnika, Riva Boduli, the main railway station, and the small harbor of Volosko. The production featured actors from the local Ivan pl. Zajc Croatian National Theatre and utilized over 300 regional extras.
