This ambitious and historically significant West German television trilogy from 1969 was directed by the prominent Austrian director Fritz Umgelter. It was produced in co-production with Ljubljana's Viba Film, which was responsible for logistics, locations, and extras in the territory of former Yugoslavia. The film was shot in Bakar next to the Jadran Hotel, on the waterfront, and at the cemetery, with local extras from Bakar participating in the shoot.
