The historical spy-war film Gospođica doktorica, produced by the Italian production company Dino de Laurentis Cinematografica and Zagreb's Jadran Film, was filmed, among other locations, on a submarine in the port of Rijeka. The plot is inspired by the real life of Elsbeth Schragmüller, the legendary and mysterious German spy from World War I who is remembered in history under the codename Fraulein Doktor. The story follows her high-risk operations, infiltration into enemy ranks, thefts of military secrets, and her complex and tragic inner struggle with morality and loyalty to her homeland while war rages around her.
