The 1961 historical adventure epic "Tatari" (with some archives dating its production to the autumn of 1960) was co-directed by Hollywood veteran Richard Thorpe and Italian filmmaker Ferdinando Baldi. Rooted in the era's highly popular peplum (sword-and-sandals) genre, the film delivers a thrilling narrative surrounding an epic clash of two warrior civilizations on European soil. Starring silver-screen icons Victor Mature and Orson Welles, the film features massive cavalry sequences of the charging Tartars, which were shot on location along the slopes of Kamenjak overlooking Grobnik Field. The feature was produced by Rome's Lux Film in collaboration with Zagreb-based Dubrava Film.
