Rijeka, Austrija

John MacKenzie, 1906.

Categories: Documentary, Short Film

In 1905, the Charles Urban film company from London dispatched journalist Harry de Windt and cinematographer MacKenzie to the Adriatic to shoot a series of travelogues about the Balkan countries. During their trip, the duo filmed two distinct movies in Rijeka, Austria, featuring scenes in the harbor, and Odlazak iz Rijeke za Dalmaciju, which included panoramic views. Both were later incorporated into the compilation film Hercegovina, Bosna i Dalmacija. The work was screened in the United States and elsewhere outside of Austria-Hungary. It is currently unknown whether the film has been preserved.
